Freeman has been playing piano since 5. His early musical experience included playing classical music and winning several piano instrumental awards locally and internationally. Following that, he studied music at the University of Cambridge with an accompanist scholarship at Homerton College, graduating with honors (with piano performance) in 2022. During his university years, he developed an interest in jazz and performed in high-profile gigs (including performing for King Charles III, Prince of Wales, and Honorary Fellows such as Reverend Jesse Jackson), in addition to the opportunity to be selected to play in a masterclass with Grammy-winning artist Jacob Collier.
As a result of his return last year, he shifted his focus from the academic side of music to jazz, becoming one of the city’s most active young jazz pianists. He has performed at many prestigious jazz venues in Hong Kong and played with jazz godfather Ted Lo. Freeman’s trio was invited to perform at the Hong Kong Freespace Jazz Festival in 2024. In addition, he has also been involved in the Cantopop scene, participating as a session main keyboardist for Vivian Koo’s pop show China tour in October 2024. As a musician, he is well versed in many genres, including jazz, classical, pop music and many others. He is always eager to learn from and work with different musicians.
