Johnny has worked as principal violist in world-leading orchestras such as Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig, the Basel Symphony Orchestra, and the Hong Kong Philharmonic.

After his graduation from SCM, he went to further his studies at Escuela Superior de Musica Reina Sofia in Madrid with Professor Rainer Schmidt. From 2006, he continued his studies in Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin under the tutelage of Professor Tabea Zimmermann. In 2009, he received his Master Degree and subsequently an Artist Diploma.

Between 2007 and 2009, Johnny worked at the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra with famous conductors and toured throughout Europe. He served in the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra as a viola tutti from 2010 before joining the Basel Symphony Orchestra in Switzerland as principal viola in January 2013. He also played as guest principal viola at the Hamburg State Opera/Hamburg Philharmonic Orchestra.

Johnny is also an active chamber music player. He has performed in Germany, Italy, Switzerland, China and Korea. As a soloist, he has performed with the China National Centre for Performing Arts Orchestra and the Berlin Concert Hall Orchestra, and also coached the Asian Youth Orchestra between 2016-18. Since 2018, he has taught at Melos Music Ltd Hong Kong and in the strings faculty at Haw Par Music Hong Kong since 2019.
